           TUXTEPEC BRIEF HISTORY

    Tuxtepec first settlers looking for the river margins to live in. The Chinantecos Tribe lived at the south from Tuxtepec, the Mazatecos Tribe lived at the west side in a wide zone of the Papaloapan river.

    This culture had highlight thinks in handicrafts like the making  of beautiful regional clothes known as Huipiles with embroideries about birds, animals, native decorations and symbols. 

    Another Tribe, the Popolocas increased in a noticeable way the commerce activity with the neighboring towns, having commercial links with the Chinantecos, the Mazatecos and the Mixes, interchanging their products like ink, vegetables, cotton, rubber, grains, cocoa, etc.

    
After the year 1428, the Azteca Empire began his expansion, they reach to dominate the southeast region of México, including Tochtepec, and becoming slowly in an important commercial and urban center, with a relative importance for the mercantile work with the towns of La Chinantla and Bajo Papaloapan; this two culture fusion was as a result of a long process in which a few groups kept their denomination in Popoloca language, replacing it by the Nahuatl language.

Tuxtepec is nowadays a beautiful city, with a population above  200,000 habitants, surrounded in the proximities by a great number of hills with abundant vegetation in which are predominant  the mahogany, the cedar and the pine trees; and few groups kept their denomination in Popoloca language, replacing it by the Nahuatl word oyamel; contemplating this wonderful landscape is located the wealthy Papaloapan River, that surround the city; as a vestige from this age there are the archeological ruins, which were found in the year 1916 in Tuxtepec, this ruins received the name of "El Castillo de Moctezuma" (The Moctezuma's Castle).
